What is it?

A paste of beans — usually cowpeas, sometimes maize, sweet potato or plantain — mixed with raw palm oil, wrapped into a ball in banana leaves and steamed.

Ripe plantains.

Origin and tradition

Eaten by communities in the Littoral and South, as well as in the West and Centre.
