University of Ebolowa
Created in January 2022 alongside those of Bertoua and Garoua, the University of Ebolowa is the first state university in the South Region. It is also the least documented of the three: its official website was not responding in October 2026, and its student numbers, detailed programmes and building progress are not published in detail online. Creation and first officials
The university was born of the presidential decree of 5 January 2022 creating universities, which also created those of Bertoua and Garoua. A decree of 3 June 2022 appointed its first officials: magistrate Jean-Pierre Mvondo Evezo'o as board chairman and mathematician Jean Bosco Etoa Etoa as rector. Both were installed in Ebolowa on 4 August 2022 by Minister of State Jacques Fame Ndongo, who stressed that a university 'is not meant for identity-based withdrawal', Cameroon Tribune reported.

What is known about how it runs
Public traces of activity are few but real. In January 2026 the news site Impact Echos News reported a presentation, in the 500-seat lecture theatre of the Faculty of Law and Political Science on the Mekalat campus, of cassava and plantain flours developed by ISABEE-Ebolowa students (food industry track). This shows the law faculty and ISABEE are running. MINESUP releases also show that ENSET Ebolowa recruited in the 2025-2026 teacher-training college exam and that the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, based in Sangmélima, offers 100 places for 2026-2027 (70 in medicine, 30 in pharmacy). In August 2026 MINESUP announced the official opening of the university's first buildings, on the Metyipkwalé campus. For the other institutions, no dated source gives an opening date.
