The story
Pousse-Pousse, a cargo-tricycle driver, wants to marry Rose. But Papa Bisséké demands an exorbitant bride price, bending tradition to his own advantage. The comedy uses misunderstandings to question custom and the emancipation of women.
Why it matters
It was Daniel Kamwa's first feature and the first Cameroonian film to sell more than 20,000 tickets: its first screenings in Yaoundé and Douala drew 24,000 admissions. It went on to succeed in Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal. Released the same year as Muna Moto, it treats the same subject, the bride price, as comedy.
Filming
Cameroon (shot in 1975).
